Improve Your Gut Health This Winter With Bacillus Subtilis

Presented by Immanence Health

Written by Dr. Irina Strelyuk

HU58™ is a single-strain spore based probiotic containing 10 billion CFU of Bacillus subtilis HU58™. The “HU” in the strain name refers to Royal Hollow University of London where this probiotic strain was originally isolated from a healthy human gastrointestinal tract. [1]

Bacillus subtilis has been shown to produce targeted effective antibiotics in the gut that are effective against a broad spectrum of pathogens. “These substances are natural part of human antimicrobial defense system hence the possibility of developing pathogen resistance or unwanted side effects is less” (2). This helps keep the beneficial and harmful bacteria in the gut balanced.

Gut and immune health go hand in hand and over 70% of our immune system is found in the digestive tract.

Bacillus subtilis has been shown to
stimulate the immune system response to protect the body against various pathogens. [2] B. subtilis has also been shown to increase short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production by 40%. SCFAs are important for both gastrointestinal health and immune function. [1, 5, 6]

Bacillus subtilis has been shown to produce vitamins, including K2 and digestive enzymes such as amylase, protease, lipase and an enzyme called nattokinase. Nattokinase is used for a variety of medicinal purposes including heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and arteriosclerosis. [1, 3, 4]

Bacillus subtilis HU58™ forms an outer protective shell, known as an endospore. Due to this protective coating, HU58™ probiotic has 100% survivability in the digestive tract and other harsh environments. This probiotic does not need to be refrigerated.

The Bacillus subtilis HU58™ strain is also found in Microbiome Lab’s MegaSporeBiotic. HU58™ can be used on its own or in combination with MegaSporeBiotic.

General dosing of HU58 ™ is 1-2 capsules once daily with meals. The capsules can be opened up and the probiotic sprinkled on food if one capsule is too strong.
